No, a bigger bar number doesn’t automatically mean better espresso. A 20-bar label can look impressive, but it doesn’t tell you how the finished shot will taste.
What Does the Pressure Number Tell You?
It may describe what the pump is rated to produce, rather than the pressure controlled at the coffee during brewing. Different machines can use different designs and controls even when the headline number looks similar.
You can’t rank espresso machines by the largest pressure number. It’s only one part of the equipment.
What Else Makes a Difference?
Your beans, grind size, coffee amount, and preparation all matter. So do the machine’s water delivery and temperature control. If the coffee is unevenly prepared, water may find an easy path through part of it instead of brewing it evenly.
That’s why a repeatable recipe helps. Use the same dose and drink size, then change one thing at a time when adjusting the taste.
Is a Pressure Gauge Useful?
It can give you feedback, but it isn’t a taste score. Read how the manufacturer tells you to use it and pay attention to the coffee in the cup too.
The CASABREWS CM5418 includes a gauge. Compare its everyday coffee and milk steps with the De’Longhi Stilosa and Breville Bambino, rather than stopping at the pump label.
Where Should You Put Your Budget?
Make a grinder plan before paying extra for a bigger number. Suitable grounds and small adjustments can be more useful than a specification you’ll never directly control.
Our first espresso machine checklist gives you a more practical way to compare the full setup.
