How Much Counter Space Do You Need for a Coffee Station?

Make room to fill, brew, and clean your coffee machine, not just somewhere for it to sit.

Coffee and equipment for how much counter space do you need for a coffee station?

Before buying a coffee machine, think about what happens around it. You need room to fill water, open lids, move cups, and remove parts for cleaning, not just space for the machine to sit.

Measure More Than the Width

Check the height and depth of the exact model too. A machine may fit under a cabinet until you try to lift the bean-hopper lid or take the water tank out.

Leave room for the parts that move. A tank removed from behind may mean sliding the machine forward every time you fill it.

What Else Goes on the Counter?

A separate grinder needs its own space. For hands-on espresso, you may also use a scale, tamper, milk jug, and a place to empty the used coffee.

An integrated grinder saves a separate appliance, but you still need somewhere to set down tools and cups. Compare a Bambino with a separate grinder with the larger Ninja Luxe Café Premier as complete setups.

Will Your Favorite Cup Fit?

Check the space under the spout. Espresso cups, tall latte glasses, and travel mugs need different clearance. If the tray comes out for taller cups, make sure that arrangement works for the way you brew.

Can You Get the Tray Out Easily?

A full drip tray is awkward if you have to lift it over another appliance. Check the used-coffee container and milk parts too. Easy access makes the daily cleaning less annoying.

Try It Before the Machine Arrives

Use paper to mark the footprint on your counter. Put your mug and milk jug beside it, then add the space a grinder would need. Imagine opening the lids and taking the tank to the sink.

That quick check may tell you more than a product photo. Browse our espresso machine reviews for smaller options or use Help Me Choose to favor a smaller setup.
